To celebrate Valentines Day tomorrow, I thought it would be nice to be all romantic and post about wedding dresses. Iconic ones, obviously though!
Both Brigitte and Bianca chose non - traditional wedding dresses. Brigitte's famous pink gingham dress made gingham the lastest in fashionable fabrics and not something just for the picnic cloth. Meanwhile Bianca's iconic white suit, which she wore on her wedding day to Mick Jagger, was her defining fashion moment.
Two of Hollywood's greatest icons stepped out in style on their wedding days. Marilyn wore this chic ouftit to her 1954 registry office wedding to Joe Dimaggio. The white flounce of the sleeves and collar added a girlish feminemity. Audrey wore a youthful 60s mini dress on her 1969 wedding day. Audrey proved style iocn status in this playful yet incredibley elegant and fashonable dress. The funnel neck, flute sleeves and a headscarf instead of a tradional veil made for a truely unique wedding day ensemble.
Dita looked incredibly gothic in this sensational Vivienne Westwood gown. This huge royal purple, silk taffetta creation was worn with a theatrical tricorn hat. Gwen also showed that wedding dresses aren't all about white lace in this memorable John Galliano gown. Gwen wore an antique veil with this deep - pink to soft rose blush to ivory white fading dress, making it no doubt iconic.Grace Kelly looked the epitomy of elegance and beauty on her wedding day. The flowing train, full skirt and oriental - esque jacket made for a truly unfrogettable gown that continues to inspire designers to this day. And besides no one does beauty better then a princess.
I know, I know we haven't even seen the film yet but we have sure as hell seen this dress! You could not read a blog nor open a magazine last autumn without seeing Carrie's Vivienne Westwood wedding dress. The sumptuous cream layers and the feathered hair piece create a wonderfully avant garde and wonderfully 'Carrie' wedding ensemble. The biggest 'celeb' wedding in recent memory was definitely the TomKat extravaganza. Katie was elegant in this graceful Armani gown. The lace and sparkle detailing meant for a timeless, gorgeously romantic wedding dress.
Diana's wedding dress was also featured on my In celebration of the Iconic Dress post, the fact that it made both lists proves it's level of iconicness. This enormous Elizabeth Emanuel wedding dress of cream and ivory taffetta was the last word in extravagance. The Layers, puff sleeves, the flowing veil and lace detailing inspired a decade of wedding dresses. As Vera Wang said "Diana's dress was amazing because it stood for so much: for her youth, who they were and the life she was marrying into."
